Right Time, Right Place…
N.Y, Manhattan Ocean Club, July 1976
John Cale, Lou Reed, Patti Smith & David Byrne.
ZE Records was a New York-based record label, started in 1978 by Michael Zilkha and Michel Esteban. They quickly became the home of the emerging No Wave and Mutant Disco scene. In 1982, The Face magazine named it “the most fashionable label in the world”, which I still think is true (no DFA without ZE!). Great article here!

Patti Smith & Lizzy Mercier Descloux dressed up as Arthur Rimbaud and Isabelle, Rimbaud’s sister… NYC 1977 by Michel Esteban. They shared a loft together back then! Those crazy kids!
“I wish I were a Warhol silk screen
Hanging on the wall
Or little Joe or maybe Lou
I’d love to be them all
All New York city’s broken hearts
And secrets would be mine
I’d put you on a movie reel
And that would be just fine.”
